The Ethos at Little Acorns:

Little Acorns Nursery is a place where every child feels at home, happy, safe, valued and well cared for, right from day one. Our job is not only to look after under-fives, but also to nurture them and help them become the very best versions of themselves. With this approach, they flourish and absolutely thrive. Everything we do and everything we have at the nursery for the children is there with such aims in mind.

At Little Acorns, under-five children receive an outstanding early years education through a learning and development plan that’s tailored for each individual. Every area of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is covered. This is all orchestrated through a Key Person that’s allocated to each child, high quality, qualified early years practitioners and two-way feedback with parents. In this way, we get a fully-rounded picture of each child’s progress at every step, identifying their strengths, interests and perhaps any areas that might need extra attention. Our bespoke learning and development plan for each child brings out the very best, in them in every area.

Our stimulating approach encourages a natural curiosity and love of learning through the instinctive desire to play, explore and discover — all at their own pace. With teachable opportunities being everywhere, children learn to find as just as much joy in doing as they do in arriving at the finished result.

As they progress, children make strong bonds with peers and childcare practitioners alike, improving social, cognitive and physical skills, building confidence, independence and a whole host of other new skills on the way. Together, we build the strongest foundations upon which every child can thrive, achieve personal bests in every area and be school ready by the time they leave us at age five.

We have an ‘Open Door’ policy at Little Acorns Nursery in Hindley Green. This means that you are free to come and take a look around, so you can see the nursery in action for yourself, at any time. Hygge at Little Acorns Nursery

Hygge (pronounced “hue-gah”) is a new initiative at our Hindley Green nursery — but, what is it exactly? Well, Hygge is a way of life, in many ways. It stems from the Danish meaning of the word, translating as a mood of cosiness, warmth and ‘comfortable conviviality’ that lends a vibe of wellness and contentment. Hygge focuses on living a happier, simpler life that’s also closer to nature and the natural world. At the nursery, the Hygge lifestyle results in improved wellbeing and happiness for both children and staff. There is a greater level of self-care, a bigger focus on outdoor play and ultimately the Hygge lifestyle allows children to make the most of each and every day with maximum contentment.

      Forest School

The nursery’s plans include becoming a Forest School setting, so staff will shortly be attending training programmes to that end. Forest School allows children to experience a real focus on nature and enjoy all the benefits of the natural world. Indeed, the benefits to under-fives are hugely significant and far-reaching. We’ll publish more details once the nursery is fully accredited.

In the mean time, the nursery makes preparations and ensures that the children have daily access to many different Forest School resources as part of their learning at the nursery. These include natural materials, sensory items, outdoor play and, of course, our excellent natural spaces in the nursery’s grounds. At Little Acorns Nursery in Hindley Green, we are extremely lucky to have extensive outdoor spaces. These include a safe, peaceful, natural area where children can get very close to nature, experience many of its resources, explore the natural world and benefit in mind, body and spirit. Watch this space for future updates on Forest School and also take a look at the Hygge section above, because Hygge also has a focus on nature and outdoor play.

I just want to thank you guys all so much for all your hard work and persistence with these two. Your hard work and efforts are paying off as we are seeing some really great steps forward for both the girls. The experience they have at nursery has really opened them up to new things and helped them learn and develop in other ways. You should all be very proud of the work you do.
